Whenever we hear about artificial intelligence (AI) in the classroom, what comes to mind are robots teaching children. Those who’ve been around AI more may also visualize kids interacting with soft-voiced software programs to get things done. In extreme cases, you may even imagine robots replacing teachers. 

Unfortunately (or fortunately), we’re not there yet. Perhaps 50 years from now, we’ll have physical robots standing in front of kids, reading out notes. Maybe the robots may even replace teachers eventually. No one knows.

          1. Automating admin tasks 

Grading, whether in the lower grades or higher education, can be a tedious task. Teachers often spend hours or sometimes days marking papers and grading papers, which could be better spent imparting knowledge to learners or working on professional development. 

While AI may not ever be able to replace human grading completely, we’re getting pretty close. A few AI solutions now allow teachers to automate grading for nearly all kinds of multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank questions. We’ve also seen a few AI programs capable of automatically grading essays. 

          2. Individualized learning

Artificial intelligence will be critical in fast-tracking this form of education. Thus, the traditional one-size-fits-all educational approach often puts them at a disadvantage.

Finally, artificial intelligence (AI) is also strongly impacting administrative roles in the education sector. For instance, intelligent data collection, powered by intelligent computers, is changing how colleges find and interact with prospective students. Insight from the data is also helping schools guide learners to the right career paths. 

Support for individual students is another critical benefit. Continuous data collection and analysis allow administrators to identify areas where students are struggling and potential solutions. For instance, the admin can spot a student struggling with depression way in advance and send them to counseling before it’s too late. 


It’s still early in the day. However, there’s no denying the impact of AI in the education industry. Artificial intelligence has had a massive impact on the industry, inside and outside the classroom. Who knows, we may even see robots take over soon.
